Climbing Mt. Fuji

So while everyone was getting ready for 86 Style at Fuji Speedway, I was watching the most amazing sunrise I have ever seen, on top of Mt. Fuji.

It had been on my list of things to do since moving to Japan over 2 years ago and my friend Saya wanted to climb for her birthday so I said we would do it together Aug 4/5….

Ready for anything 😛

So we set off from Shinjuku station and arrived at Mt. Fuji level 5 at around 7pm. We were lucky enough to catch a beautiful sunset before we even started…

Beautiful stuff!

Time for a bit of food before we headed up.

So it’s pitch dark the whole way up and I have no photos until this happened….

An absolutely stunning sight to witness and well worth the climb! I advise anyone who comes to Japan to do it at least once. I will probably do it again next summer but climb during the day and catch the sunset from the summit 🙂

It gets a little tough towards the top with the mass of people, cold weather and lack of oxygen but it’s not as difficult as I imagined. Just make sure to bring snacks and plenty of water and you’ll be fine.

Anyone looking for information on how to organise busses to and from there, or what gear to bring etc, send me an email @ garypatrickmannion@gmail.com, i’d be happy to help.

Gary 🙂

  1. Climbing Mt. Fuji AND seeing the awesome sunrise was also on my to-do-list and so I did it 2 years ago, after being in Japan for a bit more than 2 years.
I made it to the top in the middle of a typhoon, but obviously failed to see the sunrise.

I might try it again in the future, but it would be very frustrating if I don’t get to see the sunrise yet again then 😉

    1. Haha I would have went mad if I didn’t get to see the sunrise after climbing haha! Not sure if I’d climb it again, was so busy and coming down was a pain. But great experience all the same 🙂
